Ever heard of Robert Mac? What about Jamie Lissow? Maybe Shane Mauss?
Their names may not be familiar, but their credentials speak for themselves.
Mac has performed on Comedy Central's "Premium Blend" and NBC's "Late Night." Lissow has been a guest on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno and Comedy Central's "Last Comic Standing." Mauss has performed on the Conan O'Brien show and was named best stand-up comic at the 2007 HBO Aspen Comedy Festival.
They're just three of the 24 professional stand-up comedians who successfully auditioned for a chance to compete for the top prize in the inaugural Great American Comedy Festival in Norfolk this June.
Volunteers sought As the inaugural Great American Comedy Festival draws nearer, the festival's board of directors is putting out the request for volunteers from Norfolk and Northeast Nebraska.
"As one can imagine, volunteers will be extremely important to help the festival run as smoothly as possible," said Kent Warneke, chairman of the festival board. "We'd like to encourage anyone interested in being part of the festival to do so."
Those interested in volunteering will be able to help with the various events at the festival or become involved in the weeks leading up to the festival with the planning work.
"We want this to be fun for everyone. The more volunteers, the merrier. We can make use of virtually everyone who wants to help and they'll know that they're playing an important part of getting this new festival off to a good start," Warneke said.
To volunteer, people can contact the Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau at 371-2932 and leave their name and contact information or contact Sheryl Schmeckpeper at the Daily News by sending an e-mail to living@norfolkdailynews.com.
